Nico Anelli - Cycling Coach Ride Revolution

Nico Anelli – Cycling Coach at Ride Revolution

Nico Anelli’s passion for cycling began at 16 after watching the 2015 Vuelta a España. From that moment, he was hooked. He quickly immersed himself in the sport, racing as a junior and exploring multiple disciplines, including time trials, track cycling, and road racing. As he developed as an athlete, he became fascinated by the process of continuous improvement—a mindset that would later shape his approach to coaching.

Nico has dedicated time to helping others progress in the sport, coaching friends and family before refining his methods with further learning and structured training. Today, as a coach at Discovery Juniors CC, a youth and junior cycling club , he works with riders at all levels—from beginners stepping onto the velodrome for the first time to competitive young athletes chasing international success. His ability to tailor his coaching to each athlete’s experience and goals has made him a trusted mentor to many.
At the heart of Nico’s coaching philosophy is the belief that small, consistent improvements lead to long-term success. Inspired by principles of marginal gains and atomic habits, he takes a holistic approach—considering not only physical training but also lifestyle factors, external stressors, and mental resilience. Having personally navigated the challenges of training while managing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), he understands the importance of adaptability and balance. This experience allows him to guide athletes through setbacks, helping them stay on track while prioritizing their overall well-being.
Beyond coaching, Nico has made a meaningful impact in the cycling community. In 2021, he attempted the Scottish Hour Record to raise awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a cause close to his heart. While illness prevented him from achieving the record, the event raised over £5,000 and improved awareness, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to using cycling as a platform for positive change.

Nico also brings an in-depth understanding of the mechanical and technical aspects of performance. As a qualified bike mechanic he can provide guidance on optimizing bike setups and fine-tuning equipment choices, ensuring athletes are set up for success. He also helps riders make strategic adjustments to their gear, nutrition, and race-day approach, breaking down complex performance factors in a way that’s easy to understand and apply.
Holding coaching certifications from Cycling Scotland and British Cycling, Nico works with athletes across multiple disciplines, helping them improve their fitness and skills in:

  • Road Racing
  • Time Trials
  • Gravel Cycling
  • Criteriums
  • General Fitness for Cyclists

As an active member of the Ride Revolution race team, Nico doesn’t just coach—he competes, bringing firsthand experience of what it takes to perform at a high level. His mission is to help riders unlock their potential, build confidence, and achieve sustainable progress in their training.
Whether you’re new to cycling, looking to refine your skills, or striving for podium finishes, Nico is ready to guide you forward.
