Being a relatively new company heading into these challenging COVID times, we were a little apprehensive about how things would go during the 2020 season and how it would affect the normal athlete recruitment period going into 2021. However, a strong start to summer lead to Tom Neale coming onboard as our third coach, and a huge increase in website enquiries as well as many referrals from existing clients in the early autumn meant we soon had to turn our attention to finding another coach. As a company we have always worked with the view that each coach will have a strict client limit to ensure we can keep our coaching personal and stick to our pledge never to limit weekly contact time. We simply aren’t interested in chasing huge client numbers if it negatively impacts the quality of the service we are able to provide.

Fortunately, we had an oven-ready option in the shape of Charlie Passfield. Charlie has been a coached rider of both RideRevolution and before that Jake for over 4 years. Right from the outset, he has always shown a keen interest in the science behind coaching, which ultimately lead to a coaching mentorship, culminating in his appointment as our newest coach in the autumn of last year. He has shown his commitment by gaining his Level 2 British Cycling coaching qualification and Level 1 British Triathlon coaching qualification during the process. And he did this all whilst working towards a first-class degree in Maths from the University of Birmingham in 2019. He loves using his strong analytical skills in his coaching approach.

Charlie began cycle racing 6 years ago for Cycling Club Ashwell. In his first season of racing, he achieved his 1st Category licence and won the Eastern Region Road Race League overall. This was enough to get him a ride on elite amateur team; Spirit Tifosi for the 2016 season. Charlie is currently their second longest serving rider behind head coach Jake, heading into his 6th season with the team in 2021. In his first year he achieved 15 top 10’s in road races leading to achieving his elite racing licence. The following year he held the King of the Mountain’s jersey in the Tour of the North (a stage race in Northern Ireland). During his time at the Team he has raced across the UK in the Premier Calendar events, as well as overseas in Belgium, France, Czech Republic, Poland and Greece.

Before his “purely” cycling days, Charlie was an experienced Triathlete/Duathlete and successful long distance runner competing across the UK and in multiple National Championships. His standout performance being 2nd place in the World under 20 Duathlon Championships in Spain back in 2014.

Charlie is already working with a number of cycling clients but will also be available for our soon to be launched multi-sport and running packages. Watch this space for further news!
